EU Mission: Adaptation to Climate Change
CARDIMED is a proud contributor to the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change, one of five European Commission missions addressing major societal challenges.
This Mission supports regions and communities across Europe in preparing for the unavoidable impacts of climate change. While some are already taking steps, others need support to strengthen their climate resilience. The Mission promotes knowledge-sharing between front-runner regions and those still developing their strategies.
Its goal: to guide at least 150 regions and communities on their path toward climate resilience by 2030.
It will support EU regional and local authorities to
Better understand the climate risks they are, and will be confronted with, in the future
Develop their pathways to be better prepared and cope with the changing climate
Test and deploy on the ground the solutions needed to build resilience.
311 Regions and Municipalities already signed the Charter of the Mission.
Through the Charter, they expressed their interest in joining the Mission and dedication to improve their resilience to Climate Change. You can meet the Charter signatories here.

CARDIMED Resilience Alliance
The consolidation of the demonstrating regions and communities will establish the CARDIMED Resilience Alliance, which will function as the vehicle for expanding the network via upscaling the existing sites and adding new ones.
The project includes 5 transferability cases, as well as an additional 10 that will be defined during the implementation. Through these actions, the CARDIMED Resilience Alliance will reach at least 28 regions and 70 communities by 2030, aims to create 8000 jobs especially in the NBS sector, and aims to leverage over 450 M€ in climate investment.
The participating regions, municipalities, and communities will form the CARDIMED Resilience Alliance. This partnership aims to exchange knowledge and experience, promote wider adoption, introduce new cases, and coordinate with the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.

NBS4EU Cluster
CARDIMED is a proud member of NBS4EU, a cluster of seven Horizon Europe sister projects funded under the topic “HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01-06: Testing and Demonstrating Transformative Solutions on Climate Resilience, Mainstreaming Nature-Based Solutions in the Systemic Transformation.” This joint effort supports the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, with nearly €140 million invested, making it one of the largest Horizon Europe initiatives to help European regions become climate-resilient and better prepared for extreme events.
Together, the projects, ARCADIA, CARDIMED, DesirMED, LAND4CLIMATE, MountResilience, NATALIE, and NBRACER, are working with around 70 regions and municipalities across diverse biogeographical areas. By forming this strategic cluster, the projects amplify their impact through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and joint actions.
The NBS4EU Cluster demonstrates the power of collective action to tackle region-specific climate challenges, promote the use of Nature-based Solutions (NbS), and support the EU’s broader goals of sustainability, adaptation, and resilience.
