Project Vision
To enable systemic transformation for regional climate resilience in the Mediterranean,
by unifying and mainstreaming NBS and other engineered infrastructure.
Every pillar provides indispensable innovations for the systemic transformation necessary to build Climate Resilience. The CARDIMED Consortium boasts both experience and expertise and has recognised that while individual solutions for each pillar exist, the biggest challenge and transformative potential is to holistically connect these solutions and make them function at a systemic level. This is ultimately the main objective of the project.
How will this interconnection be achieved?
- By delivering the digital framework for monitoring and managing climate risks in relevance to Nature-based Solution implemantations, whereby existing initiatives will be strengthened and replicates, and new initiatives will find fertile ground for growth.
- A highly adaptable stakeholder engagement strategy for apmplifying community resilience to climate change through NBS solutions, based on knowledge transaltion and impact pathways
- The nexus modeling framework, anablind decision-makers to deciselvely support the establishment of circular value chains.
- The CARDIMED network of large-sclae operational DEMOs, successfully applying project solutions, with the associated replication materials.
- Finally, the network of the DEMOs will evolve into a CARDIMED Resilience Alliance. The impacts of the actions carried out during the project will be consolidated with next steps for further upscaling and replication.

Pillar 1 is about using digital technology and data from satellites, sensors, and also citizens to better understand and deal with climate change. This helps everyone work together on solutions that make a difference in local areas.

Pillar 2 is about how we organize and involve different groups of people, how we share scientific information, and how we get the money needed, especially through businesses that work with nature. This part helps people come together and learn how to help.
Knowledge conversion to bridge the knowledge communication gap. Open Science, Open Innovation, Citizen Science strategies, Capacity building and a Community of Practice
WEFE
Nexus
Pillar 3 is about collecting and using important data to create plans that make our use of water, energy, and food more efficient, so we can deal with climate change better.
WEFE Nexus is beyond a conceptual idea, the Nexus approach integrates management and governance across the multiple sectors of water, energy, food and ecosystems. It includes high level data integration to provide adopters with the capacity of designing and implementing circular solutions through the WEFE Nexus to address Climate Resilience (CR) challenges.

Solutions
Pillar 4 is about using NBS instead of traditional gray infrastructure to fight climate change on a large scale.
83 interventions of 47 different NBS types across 10 regions on 20 locations involving 28 communities.
