EIB Mediterranean Water Sustainability Conference

ebOS Represents CARDIMED at Key Mediterranean Sustainability Conference

On October 31, 2024, Kleanthis Erotokritou, R&D Project Manager at eBOS Technologies, proudly represented the CARDIMED project at the esteemed conference “Navigating Water Challenges in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region: Sustainability and Resilience”. Hosted by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Nicosia, Cyprus, this conference served as a critical forum for connecting with policymakers, experts, and innovators committed to addressing the region’s pressing water and resilience challenges.

The Mediterranean’s Growing Water Crisis

The Mediterranean region faces an escalating water crisis, driven by climate change, population growth, and industrial demands. Currently, over 180 million people in the region experience water shortages—a number projected to exceed 250 million by 2050. Shifting precipitation patterns, rising temperatures, and unsustainable groundwater extraction are straining the region’s water resources. This mounting crisis poses severe threats to agriculture, industry, and domestic water supplies, demanding urgent and coordinated action.

CARDIMED: Advancing Climate Resilience

The CARDIMED project aims to strengthen climate resilience across the Mediterranean through innovative solutions and collaboration. By leveraging digital infrastructure, advanced tools, and comprehensive socio-ecological modelling, the project addresses water-related challenges and supports investments in Nature-based Solutions (NBS).

eBOS Technologies plays a pivotal role in the initiative, leading DEMO9 in Nicosia, Cyprus, where three NBS projects will be piloted. The eBOS team is responsible for installing state-of-the-art monitoring and automation systems to ensure precise tracking and evaluation of these nature-based interventions.

Building a Sustainable Future

The event underscored the importance of collective efforts to mitigate the region’s water challenges. eBOS Technologies extends its gratitude to the European Investment Bank for organizing this platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, fostering innovative solutions for a sustainable and resilient Mediterranean.
