The CARDIMED Project is presented within the exhibition titled “Between Two Lines: A Look into İzmir’s Future”, organized by the İzmir Planning Agency (İZPA), bringing its work on climate change adaptation and ecosystem resilience through nature-based solutions to visitors.
The exhibition, held at Kültürpark Atlas Pavilion between 5 June and 5 July 2026, explores İzmir’s long term development vision by building connections between the city’s past, present, and future from different perspectives. Highlighting themes such as environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, conservation of natural areas, quality of life, and urban resilience, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to evaluate different scenarios for İzmir’s future.
Within the exhibition, the nature-based solution interventions implemented under the CARDIMED Project in the Southern Gediz Delta are also featured. Efforts aimed at habitat restoration, water quality improvement and monitoring, enhancement of biodiversity, and strengthening ecological continuity contribute to increasing ecosystem resilience in the delta.
The Gediz Delta, one of the most important coastal ecosystems of the Mediterranean Basin, faces pressures such as climate change, drought, increasing salinity, water pollution, and habitat loss. Through nature-based solutions, the CARDIMED Project aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity of ecosystems, support biodiversity, and develop sustainable management approaches in response to these pressures.
The CARDIMED activities featured in the exhibition demonstrate that nature-based solutions offer significant opportunities not only in urban areas but also in vulnerable natural ecosystems in terms of climate change adaptation and resilience. In this context, the project contributes to raising awareness about the ecological future of the Gediz Delta while also supporting İzmir’s vision for a more sustainable and resilient future.
