Our French partners, SEMIDE had the chance to present the CARDIMED project at the 3rd United Nation Ocean Conference on June 13th in Nice, France.
The third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), a major event co-organized by the governments of France and Costa Rica, was held in Nice from June 9 to 13, 2025.
The main theme of UNOC 3 is “Accelerating action and mobilizing all stakeholders to conserve and sustainably use the ocean”. The conference aims to support urgent and further action to conserve and sustainably use the ocean, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
The conference brought together all relevant stakeholders, including governments, the United Nations system, intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions, other interested international bodies, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations, indigenous peoples and local communities, as well as other French local actors.
UNOC-3 brought together an unprecedented mobilization for the protection of the ocean: 175 States, 64 Heads of State and Government, 28 heads of UN, intergovernmental and international organizations, 115 ministers, 12,000 delegates and nearly 130,000 visitors attending over 1,000 events.
CADIMED was able to take part in these events and illustrate its role in limiting ocean pollution. SEMIDE led a conference to more than 50 people explaining the goals of the project, each DEMO case NbS and the challenges they tackle. A focus has been done on the NbS related to water infiltration and retention limiting urban runoff in coastal cities (DEMO 4 and 5).
