On Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, Gardens of the Future welcomed a delegation of 50 Balkan VETpreneurs for a regional educational field visit focused on sustainability, climate resilience, and green entrepreneurship. This activity was organized under the CARDIMED sub-DEMO9.3, which centers on inclusive, community-based Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) in Nicosia.
The group was warmly received by Dr. Anastasia Christou, Director of Gardens of the Future, who led a guided tour highlighting the garden’s history, community mission, and the upcoming nature-based interventions planned for September 2025.
Participants gathered around the communal pot for an engaging discussion on the critical importance and scarcity of water, the role of hydroponics in urban farming, and how community gardens foster connections between people and places.
Following the discussion, the VETpreneurs participated in hands-on activities including harvesting and maintenance in the smart greenhouse, gaining practical insights into circular water use and sustainable urban food systems.
Later in the afternoon, the group took part in a walking tour through the heart of Nicosia. The visit concluded with an afternoon of volunteering at Gardens of the Future, where participants watered plants, planted new greenery, exchanged knowledge, and shared a spirit of community transcending borders, cultures, and languages.
This event was a true testament to the power of community engagement and collaborative climate action under the CARDIMED project.
