This open-access article explores how Nature-based Solutions are being mainstreamed for climate adaptation across 12 Mediterranean cities involved in CARDIMED.
Drawing on experiences from local governments, practitioners and researchers, the study identifies four pathways for mainstreaming NbS: grounding, capitalising, embedding and anticipating. It shows how different local and institutional contexts can shape the integration of NbS into urban planning and climate adaptation, offering insights for strengthening the role of nature in building more resilient Mediterranean cities.
