Short Description:

HYDRASPIS, environmental noesis (HYDR) is a company located in Karditsa (Thessaly - central Greece). The main philosophy is the holistic approach to aquatic environment issues. Hydraspis is a company of engineers, scientists and researchers actively involved in the broader field of Water Resources Management, Environment and Marine Investigation through design studies, consultancy–advisory work and research. Emphasis is given to the integrated approach and addressing problems related to the aquatic environment. The extensive experience, the specialized knowledge and the interdisciplinary character of the members and collaborators of Hydraspis provide leading edge investigation, analysis, study and planning, ensure a high level of consulting services and promote smart solutions through the multilateral creativity and confrontation of the emerging challenges.

Role in CARDIMED:

HYDRASPIS is actively involved in 3 of 9 demonstration sites in the CARDIMED project. Firstly, in DEMO1 Non-conventional water loops on North-South Aegean islands, Greece (NTUA). In this Cluster of 3 sites, as one of DEMO leaders, HYDRASPIS is engaged in interventions which will be implemented on the island of Mykonos. Through a set of rainwater harvesting Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), designed and monitored also by HYDRASPIS, aquifer recharge is achieved during the wet season, and consequently water is recovered during the dry season. The harvested water is valorised for domestic non potable use and for agricultural irrigation. Secondly, in DEMO 2 Industrial symbiosis through smart water management in Central Greece (HALCOR), HYDRASPIS along with NTUA are designing and constructing a novel biofiltration unit for the treatment of the harvested rainwater & wastewater (removal of heavy metals) and a bioswale for urban runoff management with a potential water sourcing exceeding 70% of the demand when upscaled. The goal of these NBS units is to define the feasibility of net zero water by the pilot interface of NBS and engineered solutions. Lastly, in DEMO 9 Gardens of the future in the heart of Nicosia city, Cyprus (EBOS), HYDRAPSIS is designing and constructing a novel subsurface rainwater harvesting solution providing water for the needs of green spaces in local parks, aiming to demonstrate an array of solutions for climate adaptation and social resilience in the public spaces of Nicosia city.
