With an average enrolment of 38,000 students, the University of Catania (UNICT) has been around for hundreds of years since 1434 and is oldest one in Sicily at the heart of the Mediterranean with a unique cultural and natural heritage. The educational system includes a wide range of undergraduate degrees (17 departments) alongside a great number of study courses for overseas students and a higher education centre, the Scuola Superiore Mediterranean University Centre, based on excellence. UNICT’s research teams are highly cooperative and supportive of International and European projects and programmes providing a key contribution to innovation and development across different areas of expertise, includes the environmental sustainability and social integration main issues of the following HORIZON 2022 Programme: ‘Climate adaptation and resilience Demonstrated in the Mediterranean Region – CARDIMED” in which UNICT is involved as partner through the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A).
