Short Description:

SEMIDE is a strategic tool for exchanging information on the water sector among the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership countries. It is an institutional network of Ministries in charge of water management. It focuses on assisting Mediterranean Countries to develop their own water data infrastructures and to allow more coherent and sustainable water planning. SEMIDE aims at collecting and facilitating the sharing of information and experiences, as well as the development of common tools and cooperation programmes. It provides water authorities with a means to exploit products and services in the Mediterranean region. Also, SEMIDE has been translating EU Water Framework Directive principles and European water innovation practices to the southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries, and it is contributing significantly to the Mediterranean Water Agenda and the Strategy for Water in the Western Mediterranean. SEMIDE, in cooperation with 22 National Focal Points representing Mediterranean countries, is an effective communication service, using various means from multilingual websites, e-news flash (30 000 subscribers), social networks, multimedia support, physical products as well as events with stakeholders. Finally, the Technical Unit of SEMIDE has 4 major members: the Directorate General for Water from Spain, the International Office for Water from France the SOGESID from Italy and the Energy & Water Agency from Malta.

Role in CARDIMED:

SEMIDE is an institutional cooperation network between water management authorities in Mediterranean countries. Its technical Unit of SEMIDE has extensive experience in knowledge transfer on the water and envirement sector and conducting exploitation activities and implementing business plans. SEMIDE will be coordinated the demonstration activities in Marseille (France), conduct the replication of CARDIMED solutions in South Mediterranean countries and contribute to impact creation and valorisation with networking activities among initiatives, montoring policy and decision making as well as identifying suitable financing instruments for replication and transferability.
