Sicily is the largest and most populous island in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as an autonomous region of Italy. Located south of the Italian Peninsula, Sicily is separated from the mainland by the Strait of Messina and is home to 4.8 million inhabitants. Its capital city is Palermo. Sicily is also known for its natural beauty and landmarks. The Region of Sicily is working actively on the adaptation to climate change. The regional policies on decarbonization and energy are defined, and in addition to CARDIMED work on other European and international projects, such as ClimEmpower - User driven climate applications empowering regional resilience and RESILOC - Resilient Europe and Societies by Innovating Local Communities.
