Short Description:

The Region of North Aegean (RNA) is an islandic territory in Greece, situated in the North-East of Aegean Sea. Comprising of the following islands: Lesvos, Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, Chios, Oinouses, Historical Island of Psara, Samos, Ikaria, Fournoi and Thymaina. Its administrative structure was established in 2010 according to Presidential Decree 137, Governmental Law 230/A/27-12-2010, as modified according to 15055/2023 Decision of General Secretary of Decentralized Administration of Aegean, Governmental Law 3705/B/8-6-2023. RNA has been involved in numerous European Partnerships, being responsible for the coordination, organization and management of co-funding European Projects (Interreg GR-CY, Interreg Archimed, FP6, IVC, IVB-MED, SEE, Interreg V-A GR-CY), while currently is involved as partner to the following HORIZON 2022 Programme: ‘Climate adaptation and resilience Demonstrated in the MEDiterranean Region – GARDIMED', HORIZON 2022.

Role in CARDIMED:

RNA is the partner who will support through certain actions, the project’s pilot application within the Region’s territory and specifically in the island of Lesvos. In tandem with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), RNA will promote the content and goals of CARDIMED project to related regional stakeholders (organizations/policy makers/chambers etc.) and to the public, through targeted publicity actions. Among RNA’ s engagements, is to ensure that CARDIMED’s actions contribute to the implementation of the North Aegean’s Regional Climate Change Adaptation Plan and moreover to guarantee the compatibility of the two projects.
