Role in CARDIMED:

In CARDIMED, IZSU will construct a new discharge channel in order to reduce the pressure and odor problem caused by organic pollutants at the current discharge point of Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant. With the construction of the new discharge channel, treated wastewater will be diverted to the previous bed of Gediz River which outlet is located in a deeper area of the bay. IZSU will also be responsible for the rehabilitation of Çilazmak Lagoon which has been partially disappeared due to shallowing, sediment accumulation and restricted water circulation. Rehabilitation of Çilazmak Lagoon will increase the biological diversity in the Gediz Delta and will make Gediz area more resiliant to climate change.
