Izmir Metropolitan Municipality plays an important role in the local administration of Izmir, which is the third largest city in Türkiye. Izmir is a city with 4.5 million inhabitants. 8500 years old Izmir is one of the largest port cities in the Mediterranean. People also brought their arts, and culture. Its geographical location, history and demography have empowered the city for successful economic, social and also cultural trans-border interactions. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, through its efforts to make Izmir a resilient city, is developing a network that on the one hand preserves the natural ecosystems and biodiversity of the city and on the other hand develops comprehensive strategies for the growth of the city's economy. Our municipality is responsible for the entire territory of the province, which covers 12,000 km² and includes 30 districts, 11 of which are part of the metropolitan area.
