Doga Dernegi is the partner of BirdLife International in Türkiye, and its work is driven by the demand to take action to sustain biodiversity. Since 2002, we have been continuing research and conservation on migratory routes and ecosystems and monitoring species such as flamingo, Egyptian vulture, sociable lapwing and great bustard. We have been studying the Gediz Delta, the demo area in the project, for more than two decades. As one of the World’s first KBA inventories on a national scale, the “Key Biodiversity Areas of Türkiye” book was completed in 2006 with DOGA’s coordination and the contributions of many organisations and scientists. The KBA Updating Programme, started in 2023 by DOGA, was prepared to research Türkiye's vulnerable and irreplaceable natural areas in Turkey. Science is the backbone of our conservation projects for species and habitats, while local communities and their indigenous cultures inspired by nature underpin our on-the-ground actions.
