Short Description:

CETAQUA, Water Technology Center, is the result of a unique public-private collaboration model created in 2007 by Aigües de Barcelona, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the water cycle, considering the territorial needs. This model has established itself as a benchmark in the application of scientific knowledge to water and the environment with the creation of R+D+i solutions for the benefit of society. The model has subsequently been applied in other Cetaqua centers, which are independent of each other but share strategy and work in collaboration.

Role in CARDIMED:

In CARDIMED, CETAQUA develops a common understanding, framework and infrastructure to harmonise NBS databases, NBS action plans, monitoring, data collection and evaluation processes. CETAQUA will develop a Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) catalogue and the NBS requirements and Action Plans. CETAQUA will also develop a digital tool to optimise NBS location during design phase. CETAQUA will develop strategies based on Open Science (OS), Open Innovation (OI) and Citizen Science (CS) for social NBS acceptance. Additionally, CETAQUA will carry out a sustainability and circularity impact assessment.
