Short Description:

CREAF is a public research centre publicly governed by a board of trustees with representatives from different administrations, universities, and research entities. Since its foundation in 1987, CREAF has been dedicated to terrestrial ecology, territorial analysis, and global change, pursuing excellence in the production and dissemination of knowledge, and in innovation, development, and transfer of methodologies. The centre strives to contribute to knowledge on conservation and management of the environment and the territory, in addition to adaptation to environmental change at local, regional, and global scales, functioning as a bridge between academia, administrations, and society, and promoting awareness within its scope of activities. In 2022, CREAF included about to 150 scientists and experts grouped in four research areas (biodiversity, global change, ecology and earth observation) and was engaged in 70 projects worldwide.

Role in CARDIMED:

In CARDIMED, CREAF will define common monitoring, reporting and verification methodologies for all DEMOS, including bioindicators and monitoring methods and timetables. CREAF will also provide indices to evaluate effect of NBSs on the climate resilience of the work area, and will settle the nexus between land use, soil quality, food and biodiversity. This institution will also provide models of the response of GHGs, food production and biodiversity to changes in land use or land sue intensity.
